PPAS DANCE MAJORS

ABOUT THE SHOWCASE:

 

 

Students are invited to participate in this creative online assignment that combines their creativity and talent. Students can submit posts for possible feature on the PPAS social media sites during Black History Month. The importance of this assignment is pay homage to the great Alvin Ailey and other legendary dancers from the African diaspora through social media. Approved submissions will be posted on PPAS Facebook, Instagram, Youtube and the PTA Dance Majors site. The top 4 students who receive the most "likes" and "shares" will receive additional prizes and the opportunity to appear in the final compilation video that will be used to support our fundraising efforts.

 

 

CHOOSE FROM THE FOLLOWING ASSIGNMENTS:

 

POST PHOTO w/ 250 words CAPTION - 2 CREDITS 

Create a post(s) about famous dancer or Dance Company and explain the significance of this dancer.

 

POST ORIGINAL PHOTO/ VIDEO w/ 150 words CAPTION - 4 CREDITS 

Students can pose in photo inspired by a famous dancer along with 150 words explaining your photo. You can also record yourself speaking about a famous dancer giving your feelings about the impact they made in dance.

 

CREATE ORIGNAL CHOREOGRAPHY INSPIRED BY A LEGEND

Here's a chance to show your own choreography! Create a routine that pays homage to a famous dancer or a choreographed piece that inspires you. Dancers are encouraged to create their own interpretation of the routine of their choice. (Student choreographers receive additional credits for using students in other majors and middle school students).

• Start at 6 credits (>2 minutes)

• Start at 8 credits (2-4 minutes)

 

RULES:

• Entering students must give a synopsis (or their post) of their submission by January 31st for a chance to perform February 3rd at the Black History Showcase.

• All graphic posts must be submitted by February 1st 

• All video posts must be submitted by February 10th.

• Choreographers must be Ailey majors but all PPAS students are welcome to participate. We encourage Ailey dance majors collaborate with students in other majors 

• Students may submit content for each category (up to 3 per student upon approval by Mr. Asca).
